The Coast
The most spectacular feature of the Filey coastline is the five mile plus stretch of unspoilt sandy beach. However, Filey also offers superb opportunities for sailing, sea angling and sub aqua, or, for the less active, there are attractive gardens overlooking the Bay. North Filey is protected by a low lying ridge of rocks called Filey Brigg. From the Brigg, the sands sweep to the south, ending at the spectacular chalk cliffs of Speeton and Bempton. Apart from being a Filey landmark, the Brigg offers an interesting environment supporting a wide range of maritime life. Filey's coast also offers a diverse variety of static and migratory bird life. There is even a 'dinosaur coast' where skeletons of plesiosaurs have been found in the rich deposits of the Speeton clay to the south of the Bay.
